Serge Dumoulin, assistant professor in Experimental Psychology, has just had an article published in Neuron. This high-impact paper describes the visual cortex in human subjects born without an optic chiasm. These subjects develop with two independant representations of the entire visual field, one in each hemisphere. This allows effectively normal visual performance despite this highly unusual representation of the visual field. The paper is already attracting interest, being recommended in the Faculty of 1000 collection of papers as being of special significance in it’s field.

Prof. Dr. Johan Bolhuis, world leader in the study of communication in birdsong, has recently joined the Department of Experimental Psychology. This month he is honoured by an invitation to give the plenary lecture at the memorial meeting for Sir Gabriel Horn, FRS, who died in August after a distinguished career studying the neural mechanisms of learning and memory.

Two NCU summerschools granted

Anela-Viot thesis award for Anne-France Pinget

PhD student Anne-France Pinget has been awarded with the Anela-Viot Thesis award 2010-2011 in February 4th during the “Grote Taaldag”. The Dutch society for “Toegepaste Taalwetenschap” (Anéla) and the “Vereniging Interuniversitair Overleg Taalbeheersing (VIOT)” every year award the best thesis in the area of language, language education or the usage of language.
